Endangered

Endangered is based on the story of the Blue Spix Macaw, a bird on the brink of extinction in the wild. Scientists and conservationists had been trying to introduce the only known wild Blue Spix to a potential mate that was born in captivity. The first panel of this diptych shows a natural environment with a human head outlining the way for the Blue Spix which was released into the wild, but it seems to stick out or feel out of place. The second panel shows the wild Blue Spix darting with ease through its home environment.

Los Abuelitos

I remember seeing these old portraits of my great grand parents that hung over each of their beds, yes they had separate twin beds. The portraits faced each other creating a very cool dynamic, as if they had their eyes on one another from across the wall. I painted this pair with the concept of two abstract portraits as cross sections of earth, showing a love as old as time.
